What is a Hostel?
A hostel is good quality budget accommodation that offers a comfortable night’s sleep in friendly surroundings at an affordable price. They are located across the globe. A typical hostel provides accommodations in a dorm room setting, with travelers sharing accommodations. Some hostels, including ours, also offer a limited number of private rooms. Many hostels, including ours, offer additional amenities including wi-fi, laudry facilities, free coffee/tea etc. Hostels share some common traits including shared baths, common areas accessible to all and a community kitchen. Hostels offer a distinctly different experience than most hotels/motels. It is a much more social environment offering guests the opportunity to mingle with others from around the world.
How do I get to the Hostel?
From the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport:
To our Downtown location: The most efficient method is to catch the People Mover city bus. The bus that serves the airport is the No. 7. It operates from the airport on weekdays beginning at 6:47 AM. It runs every hour thereafter until 8:46 PM. There are an additional 2 runs at 9:16 and 10:16 PM. On Saturdays it operates hourly at approximately 3 minutes after the hour from 8 AM until 8 PM. On Sundays it runs hourly at 3 minutes past the hour from 10 AM unti 6 PM. You want to ride the bus to the Downtown Transit Center (the last stop). Bus fare is 1.75 USD. Upon exiting the bus, walk towards H St, this will be to the rear of the bus. Once you reach H St (the next cross street) turn left and walk one block up to 7th Avenue. The hostel is located on the right side of the street immediately across 7th Avenue (right next to the Marriot Hotel). If the bus is not running, taxi fare to our downtown location is approximately 20 USD.
To our Midtown location: You can catch the No. 7 bus from the airport and ride it to the Downtown Transit Center. Transfer to either Bus No 2 or bus No. 75 and ride it down C St to 32nd St. Bus fare is 1.75 USD. From there walk one block west on 32nd St. to Eide St. The hostel will be just across Eide St near the intersection with 32nd St. If the bus is not running, taxi fare to our midtown location is approximately 14 USD.
From the Alaska Railroad Depot:
To our Downtown location: It is a 10 to 15 minute walk from the railroad depot to the hostel. If you choose to walk, exit the railroad depot and turn right. Follow the road in front of the depot. The road will begin to go uphill as it curves to the left. When you reach the top of the hill you will be on H St. Follow H St until you reach 7th Avenue (4 blocks). The hostel is located on the right side of the street immediately across 7th Avenue (right next to the Marriot Hotel). Taxi fare from the railroad depot is 4 – 5 USD.
To our Midtown location: You can either take a bus or a taxi. If you choose to take the bus, exit the railroad depot and turn right. Follow the road in front of the depot. The road will begin to go uphill as it curves to the left. When you reach the top of the hill you will be on H St. Follow H St until you reach 6th Avenue (3 blocks). The Downtown Transit Center is located on the corner of H St. and 6th Avenue. Take Bus No 2 or Bus No. 75 and ride it down C St to 32nd St. Bus fare is 1.75 USD. From there walk one block west on 32nd St. to Eide St. The hostel will be just across Eide St near the intersection with 32nd St. Cab fare from the railroad depot to our Midtown location is approximately 14 USD.
